Service Description

This 2 hour private boat tour of the River Shannon & Lough Ree is the ideal to get the history of the area, the beauty and tranquility of " The Lake of the Kings", Lough Ree. The cruise starts in Athlone. We will head north along the River Shannon, passing the 11th. century Athlone Castle, Custume Army Barracks known in the 1800's as Victoria Barracks, under the The white railway bridge built in 1851, and on up river. We will see and hear the wildlife nesting and feeding along the "Callows"before entering Lough Ree. With over 54 islands on the lake, it is rich in Celtic folklore, from early Christian times, to the turmoil visited on the area by the Vikings, Normans And Cromwell. We will travel past Coosan Point, Hare Island before taking a narrow opening into the peaceful waters of Coosan Lough. The boat will stop along the way to take pictures and just listen to nature at its most beautiful. Time to turn off the boat engine; take in the breath-taking beauty, the sounds, and peace. ​ The cost of the tour is for the entire private hire of the boat for up to 5 people.
