The haunting beauty and tranquillity of the sea and mountains of Connemara reflect the courage and determination of our ancestors to survive and look after each other.  My day tour of Connemara will tell the story of times past, living in the remote and haunting landscape, visiting historic sites, and sampling the very best in Irish cuisine.

A sample itinerary for this tour can be seen below:

  • DEPARTURE: 8AM

  • Maam Cross  Nestling in the shadows of Mount Leckavrea and surrounded by beautiful lakes, Maam Cross leads to the four quarters of Connemara

  • Leenane  A place of contrasts. Situated at the head of Killary harbour, a 16km Fjord, it nestles under the Maamtrasna and Maamturk mountains on the Galway-Mayo border.

  • Kylemore Abbey   Built in the 1800, This stunning Abbey  wonderfully restored , the Neo Gothic chapel, its Victorian walled garden on over 1000 acres of forest and woodland, a famous café run by a local Master cherf serving only locally sourced foods, and  home to The  Benedictine Order on Nuns, our ideal location for lunch.

  • Connemara National Park  Connemara National Park covers some 2,957 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands and woodlands.

  • Clifden  Meaning ‘beehive cell’ Clifden was founded in 1812 and while the bleak Famine era took its toll on the town's population and hinterland, it is now a colourful market town.

  • Spiddal An Spidéal, or (Spiddal as it is commonly known) is a pretty seaside village set in the Gaeltacht district

  • Galway City  'The city of the Tribes'. A bohemian and arty city, Highlights to explore in Galway include St. Nicholas' Cathedral, the bustling Shop Street and the Spanish Arch - or simply sit down to enjoy a pint of the 'black stuff' and some world-famous Galway oysters.

Depart for home: 6PM
